Creating a mockup for Signature Printing

For my next meetin with Bate Brand I researched some of the features that sites identical to Signature Printing incorporate. Subsequently, I created a PSD mockup that included a carousel slideshow, fixed menu at the top of the page and parallax scrolling

I presented the mockup to Elliott and justified my choice for the sections and dynamic functionality (where available). He seemed pleased with it and said him and Mark would go through it more extensively. Also, Elliott gave me access to Bate Brand’s Squarespace account so I could explore it a bit more and attempt adding content blocks, check the available templates and see how the mock I had created can be best represented with a Squarespace template.

I decided to use the Bedford template as a start. I had no difficulties placing content blocks or rearranging them. However, after analyzing the settings options and doing additional research online, I found out that the template does not support parallax scrolling or interactive menus. Instead, the Shift template seemed to be a better fit for the project as it had all features I was looking for. Elliott agreed with me and we decided to proceed with this template from now on.

Implemening a Squarespace CSS Timeline

I showed Elliott the outcome of my attempts to incorporate a timeline that runs smoothly on Squarespace. I also did a lot of testing for tablet and phone mode (one of Squarespace’s features) and see how the platform responds to the code. Some of the codes did not perform as expected due to CSS segments that Squarespace does not support. However, I ended up choosing a timeline that had a modern look and a few options for customization – changing the icons and the background. Elliott was impressed with my progress as I also added more transition effects. Signature Printing Case Studies + Adding Final Touches

For the Case Studies section I was determined to find if it was possible to place a text block on top of an image – a functionality that I had not came across up to that point in Squarespace. I assumed that fading the background will put more focus on the text and make it stand out more. Initially, I looked into solutions that rely on custom CSS but none were relevant or worked nicely with the template. I told Elliott about the issue and he showed me another Squarespace trick which did exactly what I was aiming to accomplish but with no additional code. However, when typing the text I discovered that it is always displayed in the center of the image which can eventually make it less readable and not as functional for mobile devices A solution for that was opening the image on Photoshop and adding extra space where needed so that it does the text and the images do not blend and interfere. Another step that I took which helped me visualise the steps I need to take in order to get a job in the field I have chosen was to look into current web design vacancies. Understanding what skills employers seek from candidates would help me analyse my understanding of how prepared I am at the moment to get a job in web design and what I need to do to increase the chances of getting employed.
